Cabo Real Golf Club ****

Designed by Robert Trent Jones II, the amazing Cabo Real winds its way around beautiful homes and the ultra-exclusive Las Ventanas al Paraiso Hotel. But the development is not so intrusive as to spoil the feeling of space and expansive ocean views.

The site of the 1996 PGA Senior Slam Tournament, it is designed to challenge the low handicapper, yet with multiple tees, it is also fun for players of any level. Trent Jones II places fairway sand traps at distances from the tee boxes that require straight and direct tee shots or one will be playing from the sand! Rolling fairways move up the mountainside then drop back down toward the beach.

When we were their for an event, our colleagues decided to go sea fishing. Bob and I however decided to play golf at the Cabo Real (you can't get sea sick playing golf :). What a fantastic place. The beautiful ocean, blue water sceneries make this a world class golf course. The course is situated midway on the corridor and is situated around the Melia Cabo Real Hotel. The 18-holes championships course features both seaside and mountain holes laid out over more than 7.000 yards and contains numerous sand traps. The Cabo Real is a real challenge for single handicap players, but is still suitable for beginners. With my handicap, it means I liked it although a bit tough here and there.

From the elevated tee box on the par-4 ninth, a lake on the left and the ocean in the distance frames the fairway. The course moves towards the water for the back nine, with the par-4 14th sweeping down to the ocean on a palm tree-lined fairway, culminating in an elevated green right next to the rolling surf. The par-3 15th runs along the beach where tee shot accuracy once again becomes important in order to stay out of the surf.

With superb ocean views from every hole, this is yet another course that pleases the senses while offering a golfing challenge. . It is considered the most spectacular front nine in Los Cabos.
